Movember wrap up
November was a month of moustache magic, mystery and madness at AGL with our Mo Bros and Mo Sistas working hard to raise much needed funds for men’s health. The AGL Network consisted of 97 members – the most we’ve ever had.
From bake sales and Tash Bash raffles, to Mo morning teas and lunches – and even a Mo trivia night – it has been a month of monumental motivation, with participants raising a massive $43,319. With AGL’s Energy for Life donating $5,000, the total amount is a whopping $48,319!
Highlights for the month include:
- John Kienhuis from Loy Yang and his infamous pink moustache. John was a veritable One Man Army, raising over $4,000 and making him the single most successful Mo Bro in AGL history.
- AGL had 12 members welcomed into the Movember Platinum Mo Bro crew by raising more than $1,000: John Kienhuis, Toan Bui, Paul Barrand, Nathan Shafter, Andrew Lenehan, Simon Bannister, Jonathan Lowe, Matt Gilchrist, Cleve Schupp, Philip Wassel, Thomas Workman and Ashley Rogers.
- A special mention should go to a record number of women supporting the cause this year, including 9 Mo Sistas out at Torrens, well done!
Some final words to all the Mo Bro’s and Sistas, from a very special Mo man, AGL's Michael Francis, whose passion for this cause is endless:
“I salute you all and thank you from the very bottom of my Y Chromosomes for your hard work, dedication and endurance over the last month. Your commitment to the health and wellbeing of men all around Australia and the world has seen you join an army of 960,000 Mo Bros and Sistas worldwide raising over $102M for this great cause."
Raise vital funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer and mental health by growing a mo this November! As an independent global charity, the Movember Foundation’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.
How does it work?
Movember challenges men to grow a moustache for the 30-days of November, thereby changing their appearance and the face of men’s health. On the 1st of Movember you start your Mo growing journey with a clean-shaven face, then, for the entire month, these selfless and generous men known as Mo Bros, effectively become walking, talking billboards for 30 days. Through their growing efforts they raise awareness for the often ignored issues of men’s health, by prompting conversations wherever they go. Check out this video from Movember on Real Men, Real Outcomes.
Another crucial part of being a Mo Bro is to raise funds for men’s health. Men donate their face, and much like taking part in a run or a walk for charity, ask their family and friends to sponsor their efforts.
Movember’s not just for men. The women of Movember are known as Mo Sistas. They play a vital role in the success of Movember by supporting and encouraging the men in their life to get involved.
