Springday has inspired me to Achieve my BHAG!

Louise, Member Since May 09

At the start of 2009, I set myself an ambitious goal. After realising I had put on 20kgs in the past 10 years, I decided to focus on what my body is capable of and not on what it doesn't look like. That's why my big hairy audacious goal (BHAG) for the year is to run the Angkor Wat Half-Marathon this December (the reward is in the scenery as much as the achievement itself).

The way Springday is structured reflects my personal perspective about my own health and well-being: it's all about what I can do. I can track my own progress, I can hold myself accountable by setting small achievable goals along the way and I can sometimes even fall off the wagon and forgive myself for it. I check in regularly to chart my progress since signing up to the 5km program in May and now I have moved on to the 10km running program before I embark on the 1/2 marathon program in a few months.

I use all the tools available on the website to stay focussed on my objective. I track my daily goals and plan my physical activities for the week or month ahead using the interactive and informative calendar. The calendar provides me with a daily program of activities to select from to help me achieve my goals. It's so simple to follow and I just work the suggested interval training into my schedule. There are so many activities to choose from that I can do all my favourite activities such as walking, running, yoga, pilates & dance to easily rack up the daily points. I usually exceed my projected points for the week. I even get points for having a rest day so I don't feel guilty about giving my body the chance to recuperate and regroup - it's all part of the journey!

Some days are easier than others but I make sure I still check into the site to browse articles and recipes for inspiration and motivation. It's also encouraging to know there are so many people in groups and communities who share similar interests and if ever I need expert advice, it's available through the site. I am looking forward to meeting others at the next My Springday event!

On average, I lose one kilogram per week and am not feeling overwhelmed by the big scary goal I've set for myself. Although I keep track of the changes in my weight, BMI and WTH ratios, the greatest kick I get from Springday is seeing my improved levels of fitness and flexibility and best of all, seeing what my body can do!
